Artist Statement & Bio

My creative process is influenced heavily by my desire to create works that feel like memories. To me, memory can be both a blessing and a curse. Sometimes we wish we could forget things, and those visuals are the ones that seem to never fade. Other memories, the ones we cherish, seem to blur together and become hazy as time passes.

Instead of creating direct representations of these memories, I utilize elements of nature to convey the feelings associated with these moments. Like memories, nature has its own duality. It can be a harsh storm beyond our control, but it can also be the gentle flower that blooms when the rain finally passes. These visuals help guide the viewer through my work that tiptoes between the lines of nostalgia and regret.

My intentionality of these themes is also aided by my use of color, often reminiscent of the fading colors of an old photograph. I thoughtfully layer colors that transport me back to my own childhood, putting me in a place where I feel more vulnerable. This allows me to sincerely depict the feelings that I always found were too hard to express in words.

As time continues to pass, I hope to express that regardless of the feelings associated with these memories, all of them are valuable because they all compose who I am.
